Mary May

Mary is a highly experienced Principal at Tonneson, bringing over 35 years of professional experience to the firm. Since joining the audit department in 1988, Mary has demonstrated exceptional expertise in providing accounting, audit, and tax services to closely-held businesses. 

With a focus on Assurance Services and Client Accounting Services, Mary has developed a deep understanding of the unique needs and challenges faced by clients in various industries, including manufacturing, professional services, private foundations, and employee benefits. She has also taken on the role of Employee Benefit Plan Director and shares the responsibility of performing pre-issuance reviews of financial statements. Furthermore, Mary plays a crucial role in overseeing the Client Accounting Services department, ensuring high-quality services and client satisfaction. 

Mary earned her BS in business administration from Salem State University. As a dedicated professional, she is a member of the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants (MassCPAs) and the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA), actively engaging with professional communities and staying updated on industry trends and best practices. 

Beyond her core duties, Mary is actively involved in mentoring staff, sharing her expertise, and guiding the professional growth of her colleagues. She also contributes to strategic planning initiatives at Tonneson, playing a key role in shaping the firm’s direction and ensuring its continued success. 

Mary’s commitment to giving back extends to her community involvement and charitable efforts. She volunteers her time and expertise in numerous charitable events sponsored by the firm, contributing to the betterment of society and making a positive impact.
