The Greater Boston Food Bank is a charitable business that distributes over 24 million pounds of food annualy to hundreds of hunger-relief agencies in the nine counties and 190 communities of Eastern Massachusetts. We use proven business practices to maximize the value of every dollar we receive from our financial donors. We work with over 500 food industry partners to help them achieve greater efficiencies that lead to larger food donations. And we depend on over 10,000 volunteers anually to sort, separate, inspect, and package donated food. We believe that everyone has a role in ending hunger, and we are commited to many meaningful partnerships that make a difference.
Second Helping is the perishable food rescue program of the The Greater Boston Food Bank. Started in 1989 as a partnership between The Greater Boston Food Bank and the Boston College Alumni Association. It is the critical link between the emergency food programs and food service establishments that want to donate surplus food to hunger-relief agencies in their communities. Second Helping annualy provides 430,000 meals to those in need.
