Bentley University Center for Women in Business Forum
On April 27, 2012, Cristina DeLeo, Senior Associate, attended the Bentley University Center for Women in Business inaugural forum, “Moving from Conversation to Action”. The purpose of the workshop was to discuss practical solutions to women’s issues and obstacles in the business world. Despite the growing number of females in the professional workforce, few women rise to the top of the corporate ladder. For example, in May 2010, 15 women were CEOs for Fortune 500 companies (3.6%). Reasons were examined and solutions were discussed in the form of lectures and a panel of CEOs and executives from several large corporations. The keynote address was delivered by Rosabeth Moss Kanter, author, strategist, and thought leader, who is considered to be among the most powerful and influential women in the world.
Wise and Wonderful Women Series – Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum
On April 25, 2012, the third event of the Wise and Wonderful Women series was held at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. The theme of this event was “Great Women, Great Legacies” and the guests began with a guided tour of the museum, learning about Isabella Gardner’s legacy in art preservation and education. This was followed by a luncheon and an open forum discussion of what defines a legacy. Yasmin Causer spoke as the tonneson representative and a tonneson client also shared her unusual journey towards founding her non-profit organization, relating how this is shaping her personal legacy. The guests participated in a hypothetical philanthropic exercise in which each table designed their own legacy. It was an entertaining, interesting and inspirational afternoon. Amy Phelan from tonneson also attended the event and captured memorable moments with her camera.
Geneva Group International European Conference
Rick Mastrocola attended the Geneva Group International European Conference held in Cannes, France from April 26 through April 29, 2012. The conference offerings included lectures, specialist practice group meetings and inspirational workshops. The keynote speaker was Candace Johnson, a venture capitalist, business leader and innovation expert who has been active in the technology industry for the past 35 years and helped pioneer the satellite system covering Europe.
Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting and Dinner
On April 24, 2012, a group of tonneson + co employees attended the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Meeting and Dinner Reception held at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center located in South Boston. Speakers at the event included Boston Mayor Thomas Menino as well as Walter Isaacson, bestselling author of Steve Jobs, a comprehensive biography about the life and times of the creator of Apple. The Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce inducted the Johnson family into the Academy of Distinguished Bostonians for their contributions to the community. The Johnson family is well known for their accomplishments at Fidelity Investments as well as their great philanthropic work.
11th Annual Friends Ball – Franciscan Hospital for Children
On February 10, 2012, members of tonneson + co attended the Franciscan Hospital for Children’s 11th Annual Friends Ball at the Intercontinental Hotel in Boston. The event raised more than $300,000 to benefit patients of the Brighton hospital and tonneson made a special donation to help the hospital build a new Music Therapy Center. Tonneson + co is a proud supporter of the hospital, which is one of the largest rehabilitation hospitals in the US and specializes in providing clinical, therapeutic and educational programs for children with a variety of disabilities and health care requirements. In addition to participating in “Wacky Wednesday” programs with children in the inpatient unit, hosting pizza parties and ice cream socials, tonneson sponsors its annual 5k road race and wiffle ball tournament.
Wise and Wonderful Women Series – Tea at the Taj
On February 2, 2012, tonneson + co, represented by Yasmin Causer, co-sponsored the second event in the Wise and Wonderful Women series. The event was held at the Taj hotel in Boston and was attended by clients and friends of the three sponsoring companies. The highlight of the afternoon was a conversation with Karen Ansara, a local philanthropist who was instrumental in setting up the Haiti Fund at the Boston Foundation. Over tea and refreshments, Karen shared her inspirational personal journey and experiences of making an impact through philanthropy.
